Video Transcript for Review of Weigh Safe Trailer Hitch Lock - Hitch Receiver Locking Pin With Cap - WS54CR

Hi, everybody. Andy here with etrailer.com. Let's take a real quick look at this Weigh Safe stainless steel hitch receiver locking pin with cap. This hitch lock is gonna fit most of your 2 inch, 2.5 inch and 3 inch receivers with a pinhole diameter of 5/8 of an inch. This lock is gonna let you lock your ball mount or other hitch accessories into your receiver. This does have a really nice tethered dust cap that's gonna block out dirt and moisture.

And you are going to get two keys that are going to easily work with this pick-resistant tubular lock cylinder. So I'm just gonna go ahead and insert this key here, give it a turn, and then that's going to allow me to unlock this. And then I'm going to turn that key back to the lock position, remove the key. And what I really like about this particular lock is you do not need the key inserted into the head here to lock this back up. So you just push it together just like that and it is locked up.

So that's a really nice feature about this particular hitch lock. Now, let me go ahead and put my cap back on here and then I am going to get my ruler and just give you some measurements here just so you have a good idea of the size. So looking at the overall length with that cap, we're sitting pretty close to 5 7/8 inches long. And then the inside pin length, also known as the span, let's see if I can get a measurement on that for you. So it looks like we're sitting pretty close to about 3 7/16 inches or so on that inside pin length.

This is made of stainless steel, so it's gonna hold up really well against the elements that it's going to be constantly exposed to. So again, you're gonna get two keys, and this is gonna be an easy, quick way to secure your accessories or your ball mount to your trailer hitch receiver. Well that's gonna wrap up our quick look today. I do hope that it was helpful for you. Again, my name is Andy, thank you for joining me.

Hi Amy
The hitch is first class quality
as is your service. ( just ordered a brake controller)
I didn’t realize the weight safe came with a locking hitch pin, so I ordered an additional one.
I would like to return that if possible.
Either way you guys are truly the best!

  • Will The Locking Pin In The Weigh Safe Hitch WS78RR Fit 2" and 2-1/2" Hitches?
Hi Jason! I pulled one of the Weigh Safe Hitch w/ Built-In Scale for 2" Hitch - 6" Drop/7" Rise - 15K - Steel # WS78RR from our warehouse and the pin (# WS54CR) has 3-7/16" of useable length. With that said, it will fit 2", 2-1/2", and 3" receivers. There will be no issues using it the way you want. Speaking of which, is this for a business or do you just have two trucks?

  • Can I Use A Threaded Bolt And Nut To Secure Tow Bar Into RV Hitch?
Hi Jim, good question. In theory, a 5/8-inch Grade 5 bolt with double nuts and Loctite would hold the tow bar in place, but it’s not recommended for a couple of important reasons. Hitch receivers and tow bars are designed to use a shear-strength rated hitch pin, not a threaded bolt. Bolts aren’t meant to take side-load shear the way a smooth hitch pin is, and the threads create weak points that can fatigue over time. Especially with the constant push-pull forces of flat towing. There is also an internal pin that holds the hitch balls to the platform that is a chrome plated steel, but that pin is essentially fully enclosed so it won't be a risk factor for you. Since it sounds...
